Partnering With Mississippi Public Broadcasting

Tupelo, MS — The Mississippi Hills National Heritage Area recently launched a redesigned version of their website which features new options for cultural and heritage travelers who want to find out more about the 30-county Hills region in North Mississippi.

One of the new elements on the site has been made possible through a partnership between the Mississippi Hills Heritage Area Alliance (MHHAA), coordinating entity for the heritage area, and Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB).  The website now includes video highlights from the MPB show Mississippi Roads, hosted by Walt Grayson.

Visitors to the site will have access to videos of places and events throughout the NHA, such as Oxford's Double Decker Festival, West Point's Prairie Arts and Howlin' Wolf Festivals and playwright Tennessee Williams' home in Columbus.

These segments include other intriguing stories about Mississippi Hills residents, such as New York makeup artist Billy Brasfield's renovations of historic homes in Aberdeen and Tupelo's award-winning teenage blues band, Homemade Jamz.

MPB's Chief Operating Officer, Jay Woods, says, "MPB is delighted to provide this content to MHHAA.  In fact, MPB is renewing its effort to help communities attract tourists to their areas by making available MPB's many years of content showcasing Mississippi."

Other site features include itineraries for touring the region, photo and media galleries, updated member data and information about the region receiving the National Heritage Area designation from Congress in 2009.

"We hope that through this partnership, we can share the Mississippi Hills in a more compelling format with these videos. Our goal is to peak a curiosity for the Hills heritage area that will attract visitors," said Kristy White, executive director of the Corinth Area Convention & Visitors Bureau and MHHAA board member.

"We would like for visitors to personally discover our stories, experience our culture and celebrate our heritage," she added.

The Mississippi Hills NHA is one of 49 National Heritage Areas across the country, all charged with preserving, conserving and interpreting some of America's greatest assets.
