December and January are the best months to view bald eagles, waterfowl, and a variety of gulls on the river between the trails. In fall and winter, the skies are engraved with formations of ducks, geese, pelicans, gulls, herons, shorebirds, and songbirds. Woodland species are more often encountered in late spring and early summer with their young-of-the-year.
